Our Story

About the Band

Moira is a power rock trio based in Groningen (Netherlands) in which prog-inspired grooves, dance-oriented basslines, and long, soulful solos come together in a live-oriented musical expression.

In late 2023, Moira rose from the ashes of a previous project that generated a tight bond between frontman Matteo Formis, and bassist Tijn Dekker. To complete and embrace a trademark groove section, ascending from Istanbul’s underground rock scene, Efe Yılmaz was chosen to complete the current - and everlasting - formation.

After having devoted the early stages to finding a unique blend between tastes, genres, and tonal possibilities, the band made its official debut in March 2024, playing a part in a sold-out event at one of the major student theaters in Groningen. A second, successful participation at the same venue one week after marked another sold-out performance, projecting Moira high in the lively musical community of the biggest city in the northern Netherlands.

Later in the spring, Moira began headlining local venues, including two memorable performances at the Simplon Poppodium, a landmark of the Dutch alternative scene.

In the summer of 2024, the band undertook its first studio time together to free-standingly record a four-song debut EP, released on January10th, 2025. The effort received widespread positive critical acclaim both locally and internationally enough for the non-single track "Blood Sugar" to earn airplay on South American radio.

With the reaching of the final of the "Songs For Freedom" contest with the unreleased single "All Hallows' Day", Moira kept reaffirming itself as one of the most promising ones-to-watch acts of the northern Netherlands; on May 30th, 2025, a sold-out 40-minute set on the legendary main stage of VERA Groningen skyrocketed the band's popularity in their hometown.

The summer of 2025 brought Moira to attempt a partial stylistic reinvention as they embarked on a prolific collaboration with producer Avital van de Vlag. At Avital's studio, the band shaped the sound for a more intimate, acoustic four-track EP. The first single extracted, a cover of The Beatles' "Day Tripper", stands as a testimony to the enduring respect for a group that has been an integral part of the members' musical influences.
